Talkspace provides virtual mental health services through messaging and live-session therapy, psychiatry and medication management, and a separate paid AI support product called Tee. People can pay out of pocket or check insurance, employer or health-plan benefits. The company says it is not an emergency service.

What Talkspace offers

  • Individual therapy: asynchronous messaging, scheduled live sessions, or both, depending on the plan.
  • Teen therapy: available for ages 13 to 17 with parent or guardian consent, subject to state rules.
  • Couples therapy: live sessions and messaging under one subscription; insurance or employer coverage depends on the benefit.
  • Psychiatry: video evaluations, follow-up appointments and medication management. Psychiatry is purchased by the session rather than through a therapy subscription.
  • Tee: a separate AI mental health guide sold by monthly subscription. Talkspace says Tee is not a human therapist, cannot diagnose or provide treatment, and is not appropriate for a crisis.

Talkspace says messaging members can contact their therapist at any time and receive responses five days a week. Live appointments are scheduled. The exact mix of messaging, video and workshops depends on the selected plan.

Availability

All 50 states appeared in Talkspace’s therapist directory on September 15, 2026. That is a dated directory observation, not a guarantee that a particular clinician, specialty, appointment time or insurance plan is available. Virtual treatment depends on a clinician licensed for the state where the patient is located.

Talkspace’s Medicare page contains conflicting geographic language. One answer says virtual therapy is covered nationwide, including all 50 states and the District of Columbia; another says Talkspace accepts Medicare in some states and is adding more. The same page says Medicare coverage currently applies to therapy, not Talkspace psychiatry. Medicare and Medicare Advantage members should verify their state, plan and service directly before enrolling.

Pricing and insurance

These out-of-pocket prices were displayed on the Talkspace pricing page on September 15, 2026. Therapy rates are quoted weekly, but Talkspace says the plans are billed monthly, quarterly or biannually.

Service Advertised price Included or excluded
Individual or teen messaging $69 a week Messaging; responses five days a week
Individual or teen video plus messaging $99 a week Up to four 30-minute video sessions a month and messaging
Individual video, messaging and workshops $109 a week Up to four video sessions, messaging and weekly workshops
Couples video plus messaging $109 a week Up to four sessions a month and messaging for both partners
Psychiatry initial evaluation $299 One-hour video evaluation; medication cost not included
Psychiatry evaluation plus one follow-up $435 Initial evaluation and one follow-up
Psychiatry follow-up $175 Available after an initial evaluation
Three psychiatry follow-ups $475 Three follow-up video visits
Tee $19.99 a month After a seven-day free trial

Talkspace lists $69 for an additional video session in one part of the pricing page and $65 for an additional couples session in another. The page does not explain whether that is a service-specific difference, so confirm the price before adding a session. Live-session credits do not roll over between months.

Talkspace bills participating insurers directly and says coverage varies by plan. Its current page reports that most insured members have a $0 copay and gives a $10 average therapy copay and a $15 average psychiatry copay. Those are company-reported averages, not individual quotes; deductibles, network status and covered services can change the amount. Out-of-network members may be able to submit a superbill to their insurer. Prescriptions are paid for separately at the pharmacy.

Ownership and history

Talkspace says it was founded in 2012 and now works with more than 6,000 licensed clinicians. Both are company-reported figures.

The company became public in 2021 through a merger with Hudson Executive Investment Corp. It returned to private ownership on August 17, 2026, when Universal Health Services completed its acquisition. The SEC filing says Talkspace survived the merger as an indirect wholly owned UHS subsidiary and that holders received $5.25 in cash for each outstanding share.

Talkspace’s About page identifies Jon R. Cohen, M.D. as chief executive officer, Ian Harris as chief financial officer, Gil Margolin as chief technology officer and Nikole Benders-Hadi, M.D. as chief medical officer as of this profile’s verification date.

Who provides the care

Talkspace’s 2025 annual report describes a management-services structure rather than clinicians being engaged directly by Talkspace, Inc. A subsidiary, Talkspace LLC, provides administrative services under agreements with Talkspace Provider Network, PA and affiliated professional entities. Those professional entities contract with the physicians, therapists and other licensed professionals who treat members.

Cancellation, refunds and privacy

Talkspace says out-of-pocket plans can be paused or cancelled before renewal, and psychiatry has no subscription. Its terms of use, last updated January 29, 2025, say refunds may be full, partial or prorated at Talkspace’s discretion except where prohibited by law; that is not a blanket refund guarantee. The terms also contain binding-arbitration and class-action-waiver provisions, with a written opt-out period of 30 days after registration.

The privacy policy displays a July 17, 2025 update date. Both documents predate the August 2026 change in ownership, so readers should review the current versions when enrolling.
