MDLIVE is a virtual-care service for urgent care, primary care, mental health and dermatology. Its live visits take place by phone or video, while dermatology uses a questionnaire and uploaded photos. Access is sold directly to patients and through participating health plans and employers.

Services

  • Urgent care: on-demand, nonemergency visits with board-certified doctors. MDLIVE advertises access 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
  • Primary care: scheduled wellness screenings, routine care and support for ongoing conditions. The primary-care service is for adults and is available only through select participating health plans.
  • Mental health: scheduled therapy and psychiatry, including medication-management appointments with psychiatrists. The company also advertises care for children ages 10 to 17.
  • Dermatology: an asynchronous service for one skin, hair or nail concern at a time. Patients submit a history and photos; MDLIVE says a dermatologist responds within 72 hours, usually within 24 hours.

Doctors may send a prescription to the patient’s chosen pharmacy when they determine one is appropriate. The MDLIVE FAQ says a prescription is not guaranteed and the service does not prescribe controlled substances. The public visit-price table does not quote medication prices.

Availability and access

MDLIVE reports that its platform is available throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Phone-visit availability varies under state rules, and an available platform account does not mean every service or benefit is offered under every plan. Urgent care is on demand; primary-care and mental-health appointments depend on provider schedules. Primary care is limited to participating insurance plans.

MDLIVE is for nonemergency care. Its FAQ directs people with a medical or mental-health emergency to call 911 or use emergency care.

Pricing and payment

These are MDLIVE’s advertised prices as checked September 15, 2026. A $0 price depends on insurance or benefit eligibility rather than applying to every patient.

Service Advertised price
Urgent care $0–$89 per visit
Primary care Copay may be as low as $0 through a participating plan
Therapy $0–$179 for an initial visit; follow-ups up to $140 before insurance
Psychiatry $0–$299 for an initial visit; follow-ups up to $159 before insurance
Dermatology $0–$95 per case

The company says it accepts many major insurance plans, but not every plan covers every MDLIVE service. People with employer or health-plan access see their applicable charge before booking. Self-pay options are available for some services; primary care is the notable plan-only exception.

Company background

MDLIVE says it was founded in 2009. Cigna’s 2021 annual report states that Cigna acquired 97% of MDLIVE on April 19, 2021 and, together with its earlier investment, reached full ownership. MDLIVE now describes itself as part of Evernorth’s portfolio of care-delivery businesses.

Availability claims

One row per jurisdiction and reported status. Scopes that share a status, attribution, source and observation date are listed together in a single row; a scope the company reports differently keeps its own row. "Company / platform" means the company as a whole, not every service. "Company-reported" means the company said it; it has not been independently checked unless the attribution says so. MDLIVE's primary-care page says MDLIVE is available anywhere in the United States and Puerto Rico, and that MDLIVE has a vast, nationwide network of board-certified, licensed doctors in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The same page limits who can use the service: "Primary Care is only available through select health insurance plans", and it adds that because not all plans include primary care benefits, the easiest way to determine if MDLIVE Primary Care is included in your plan is to create a secure MDLIVE account. Being in a covered state therefore does not mean primary care is open to you; it depends on the participating plan. It also does not establish appointment availability, which visit mode is permitted where you are, what you would pay, or that any particular treatment or prescription will be provided.
