Amazon One Medical combines a membership-based primary-care practice with virtual and in-person care. Members can use 24/7 on-demand virtual care and book scheduled appointments. People who do not want a membership can instead buy one-time virtual care for common conditions.

Services

  • Membership: on-demand video care nationwide, direct-message care where available, messaging with a care team, prescription requests and renewals, health records, and appointment booking.
  • Scheduled primary care: in-office and scheduled video visits for preventive care, ongoing primary care, chronic conditions, mental health, and other needs. These visits are billed separately from membership.
  • Nonmember On-Demand Care: one-time direct-message or video visits for more than 30 common conditions. Adults ages 18 to 64 can create their own profile; parents and guardians can request supported care for children ages 2 to 11.
  • Local office services: One Medical offices offer scheduled care and, at some locations, onsite lab services. The location directory shows the markets currently served.

If a prescription is offered, the company’s help page says it can be sent to the patient’s chosen pharmacy; Amazon Pharmacy is not required.

Availability

One Medical says members can use on-demand video care through its app in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. That nationwide virtual access does not mean the company has an office, scheduled primary-care practice, or identical service menu in every state.

In-person and scheduled video visits depend on a nearby One Medical practice. Nonmember On-Demand Care is offered in the United States, but Direct Message Care and condition eligibility vary by state.

Pricing and insurance

Prices displayed on September 15, 2026 were:

Option Advertised price What to know
Standard membership $199 a year Includes on-demand virtual care; scheduled visits cost extra
Prime member membership $9 a month or $99 a year Requires an active Amazon Prime membership
Additional Prime family member $6 a month or $66 a year Up to five additional family members
Nonmember Direct Message Care Starting at $29 One-time self-pay care; availability varies by state
Nonmember Video Care Starting at $49 One-time self-pay visit

The central billing distinction is that the membership fee does not cover scheduled office or scheduled video visits. Those appointments are billed separately to the patient or insurance, and copays and deductibles may apply. One Medical’s insurance finder is market- and plan-specific.

Insurance is not accepted for the membership fee or nonmember On-Demand Care. The nonmember On-Demand Care fee is FSA/HSA eligible. The company says it accepts many commercial insurance plans for scheduled visits, plus Original Medicare, Medigap, and selected Medicare Advantage plans in supported practices. Its help page says people covered only by Medicaid generally cannot receive ongoing primary care, with an exception for Washington, D.C. residents. Self-pay scheduled visits are available, with prices varying by visit.

Ownership and history

One Medical says it has operated since 2007. A 2017 company announcement identifies physician Tom X. Lee as its founder.

Amazon completed its acquisition of 1Life Healthcare, the company behind One Medical, on February 22, 2023. The SEC filing says 1Life continued as the surviving corporation and became an indirect wholly owned Amazon subsidiary.

What to verify before enrolling

Check the current price, local office availability, accepted insurance, and whether the requested service is offered in the state where the patient will be located. Membership, scheduled care, and nonmember On-Demand Care have different billing and eligibility rules.

Availability claims

One row per jurisdiction and reported status. Scopes that share a status, attribution, source and observation date are listed together in a single row; a scope the company reports differently keeps its own row. "Company / platform" means the company as a whole, not every service. "Company-reported" means the company said it; it has not been independently checked unless the attribution says so. Read each row's note.

One Medical's insurance page states that you can get virtual care through its app in all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C. — including 24/7 on-demand Video Chat and Treat Me Now — at no extra cost, and that it does not bill insurance for these services. That is the on-demand virtual care included in membership; it does not establish scheduled appointments, office visits or insurance-billed services anywhere. Being in a listed place does not establish that a clinician is free at a given moment, or that any particular treatment or prescription will be provided.
